Founded in 1806, Geauga County rests in Northeast Ohio's Appalachian Plateau region.

Rolling hills, natural lakes and ledges beckon travelers to explore the area's rich cultural history.

The county is also home to thousands of Amish folk who live mainly in its eastern townships.

In the 1880's some of the Amish from Holmes and Wayne Counties migrated to this beautiful area.

They settled down here to establish their homes and farms and to continue their self-sufficient, simple lifestyles in a new place.

Middlefield and its surrounding countryside is of course the hub of the area's Amish population.

Burton and Huntsburg also have significant Amish establishments as well. There are some 60 Amish schools in the county.

Burton Historic District has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1938.

Check out the log cabin on the square. And be sure to sample some of Burton's famous locally produced maple syrup and maple products.

Chardon and its Historic Chardon Square welcome visitors with year round events and activities.

Punderson Manor Lodge

Chardon also boasts an old-fashioned mill featuring stone ground flours and baking mixes.

While in the area you must experience Punderson Manor Resort and Conference Center, one of the Ohio State Park Resorts.

Geauga County has an extensive conservation and park sytem. Established in 1961, the Geauga Park District now features 12 different parks showcasing hiking trails, nature preserves, fishing, boating and so much more. With over 6000 acres, you can really "get away" into nature and enjoy the beauty this county has to offer!
