April 2012

Dear Ohio Amish Country Enthusiast,

Spring has sprung in Ohio Amish Country - and everything is almost a month ahead! Trees are budding & blossoming, spring flowers are in bloom, the grass is growing and the weather is mild.

We've already had five calves born on our little farm here in Northeast Ohio. The animals are enjoying the warmer temperatures as much as we are.

We have no complaints about this past winter - had just enough to say we had one and now we're moving into spring & getting ready for summer. Some folks have already started mowing lawns nearly five weeks early!

plow-barn Farmers are already out preparing gardens & fields for spring planting - just hoping we don't get some last minute cold snap with a killer frost.

We had family from Northwest Arkansas visiting with us recently, so we took advantage of the time to take them to Amish Country - who could have guessed - what can we say?!

We noticed that a lot of others were out taking advantage of the beautiful weather with the same idea we had. Not that it's a bad thing, but it's already starting to get busier - especially on weekends!

Better make your plans now! What a great time of year to get out and experience spring in Ohio Amish Country. And remember, if you need a little help navigating around Ohio Amish Country, we strongly advise that you get an Ohio Amish Country map.

Please also remember to follow Experience Ohio Amish Country on Facebook for more exciting tips & info.

Green Acres Furniture
We were recently on the hunt for a new sofa and love seat. We had a great time "hop-scotching" all over Amish Country in pursuit of just the right deal.

Our quest took us to many of our favorite stops and included a few new ones. We looked, shopped, browsed, talked, figured, contemplated and compared.

It was a wonderful experience - and we learned quite a bit about furniture in the process. Most places were helpful, but one particular place just stood out above the rest this time.

green-acres-furniture Green Acres Furniture just outside Mt. Eaton, Ohio deserves special recognition for friendliness and helpfulness - thus we are featuring them here!

Green Acres is located 1 and 1/2 miles northeast of Mt. Eaton at 7412 Massillon Road, SR 241, Navarre, Ohio 44662. They feature custom-made, Amish furniture. Their philosophy is summarized in their claim, "From Forest to Furniture."

Be sure to visit their 45,000 square foot manufacturing and retail facility. They have an extensive selection in their showroom for immediate purchase. Or, you can special and custom order based on your individual needs and preferences.

Give them a call at 800-807-0975. You can check out their web site at

Good Friday & Ascension Day

Just a reminder that many establishments in Ohio Amish Country will not be open on Good Friday, April 6th. Most of the Amish owned & run shops will be closed in observance of the day. Some of the larger, non-Amish will still be open. You may want to call ahead if in doubt.

As Scripture teaches, Christ ascended into heaven 40 days after He arose from the grave. The Amish observe this special event with a day set aside called Ascension Day. It is 40 days after Easter each year.

This year, with Easter being on April 8th, Ascension Day would calculate out to be May 18th. Once again, many Amish establishments will be closed on this day.
