July 31, 2013
Ohio Amish Country Experiences
and Ohio Amish Country Marketing
Dear Ohio Amish Country Enthusiast,
Summer reminds me of a lumbering freight train as it gains speed coming down the tracks. It seems to have a slow, laborious start, but when it gets up to speed - lookout, it absolutely flies by you.
And so, summer seemed to get off to a slow start - but it surely got up to speed fast! Sometimes, you feel like it gets going so fast that it just about blows you away.
There's a flurry of great activities like fairs, festivals, farmer's markets, auctions, community sales & events, reenactments and so much more.
Add to these some great shopping opportunities and lots of fresh local produce and . . . before you know it - another summer has come & gone!
But, wait! There's still time - it's not over yet, it's just going fast. So, hang on, or rather, get on board and get involved in what you enjoy most - even if it's just kicking back and relaxing.
There's something for just about everyone in Ohio Amish Country! Like antiques? No problem. Looking for fine furniture? Got it. Seeking beautiful, serene landscapes? There's plenty. Enjoy auctions & festivals? Got those.
Looking for farm fresh produce? Lots available. Enjoy traditional family-style cooking? Come & get it. Just want to get away from the "rat race?" This is it!
Remember - if you need a little help navigating around Ohio Amish Country, we strongly advise that you get an Ohio Amish Country map.

Watch Shooting Stars!
The first week or so of August every year is the prime time to watch for shooting stars in the northern sky. Unless you live in the country away from the "light pollution" of the bright city - chances are you'll not see anything.
Ohio Amish Country locations are great for just such "star gazing." You are out in the country and not everyone around you has yard and night lights glaring in the way.
Just find a great place to spend the night out in the country away from the city near some friendly Amish neighbors. Get out some comfortable chairs with friends or family, look north, lean back, relax and see how many shooting stars you can count!
You'll also notice how peaceful and quiet nights can be without the noise of a busy city or freeway nearby.
Featured Recipe of the Month
Oatmeal Chocolate Cake
1 3/4 cup boiling water
1 cup uncooked oatmeal
1 cup brown sugar (packed)
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 large eggs
1 3/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon cocoa
12 oz. chocolate chips
3/4 cup nuts
Pour boiling water over oatmeal. Let stand 10 minutes. Add sugars and butter. Stir until butter is melted then add the next 5 ingredients. Add half of the chocolate chips. Pour in greased 9 x 13 inch pan. Sprinkle nuts and rest of chocolate chips on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Very good.

Mrs. Miller's Cabin
We've been in, around and through Charm countless times. Heading south on SR 557 just as you enter Charm, off to the right, tucked behind Miller's Dry Goods store, on the other side of a creek, there's a quaint cabin that piqued our interest.
We had heard/read lots of good things about Mrs. Miller's Cabin. It can easily sleep 10 adults and has two bathrooms. So, naturally, we wanted to see about staying there.
The first thing we found about Mrs. Miller's Cabin is that it is immensely popular - and hard to book. Some dates are taken nearly a year in advance! So, we had to plan well ahead to make our timing work.
We were able to spend a few nights there this past spring - and enjoyed it so much. The driveway that accesses the cabin actually has a covered bridge over the creek that adds to the beauty of the setting.
One morning, horses were grazing right up to the fence a matter of feet from the kitchen window. The view of the horses grazing beyond the fence with the valley and a barn in the background was a beautiful sight.
Among the amenities they list are the following:
Four large bedrooms, 4 queen beds, 2 twins, 1 crib, easily sleeps 10 adults, air conditioned, 2 bathrooms - 1 on main floor with tub/shower, 1 upstairs with large shower, wheelchair accessible, fully equipped kitchen with toaster, coffee maker, crock-pot, pots, pans, dishes, etc., indoor/outdoor dining, washer & dryer, towels & linens, iron & ironing board, wireless internet, satellite TV, DVD player, gas grill, relaxing porch & patio, lovely landscaped yard, covered bridge, easy walking distance to town attractions.
The cabin is located at 4510 SR 557, Charm, Ohio, 44617. To learn more about Mrs. Miller's Cabin, you can check out the following link at: www.mrsmillerscabins.com.
