Amish Country Auctions

amish-auction

Amish Country auctions are a unique experience in themselves. The Amish are certainly well known for their Benefit Auctions and "Amish Country" is known for its Farm/Livestock Auctions.

Because of the high concentration of Amish farms, there are several auction barns in Holmes, Wayne and Tuscarawas Counties where farm and livestock auctions are held.

These auctions, though not unique to the Amish, provide a means to buy and sell livestock, farm equipment and even produce for the Amish and other local farmers.

Outside, these barns often feature Amish families selling produce, baked goods and wares. Inside, they buy and sell livestock and other commodities at a regular auction.

The various auctions rotate throughout the week between these four different locations all year around:

Kidron-Auction

  • Mondays - Sugarcreek Cattle Auction, 12:30 p.m., 102 Buckeye Street - call 330-852-2832.
  • Tuesdays - Farmerstown Livestock Auction, 12:30 p.m., SR 557 - call 330-897-6081.
  • Wednesdays - Mt. Hope Livestock, Hay & Produce Auction, 10:00 a.m. hay & straw auction, 11:00 a.m. livestock auction, 11:30 a.m. produce sale, also features exotic animal, machinery & tack sales throughout the year, CR 77 - call 330-674-6188.
  • Thursdays - Kidron Hay & Straw and Livestock Auction, 9:15 a.m. hay & straw auction, 11:00 a.m. livestock auction, outdoor flea market weather permitting, downtown Kidron - call 800-589-9749, 330-857-2641.

Held every Thursday except Ascension Day, and Thanksgiving, this is Ohio's oldest livestock market - started in 1923!

  • Mt.-Hope-Auction

  • Fridays - Sugarcreek Horse & Tack Auction, 11:00 a.m. tack sales, 2:30 p.m. horse sale, 102 Buckeye Street - call 330-852-2832.
  • Saturdays - Mt. Hope Auction Horse Sale, second Saturday of every month 8:00 a.m., CR 77 - call 330-674-6188.
