According to the Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies, of the estimated over 230,000 Amish in the nation, approximately 24% or nearly 56,000 of them live in Ohio. This ranks Ohio as the leading state in Amish population over Pennsylvania with nearly 52,000 and Indiana with nearly 39,000. You're probably familiar with areas like Holmes County and Berlin. You've probably heard of Sugarcreek, Walnut Creek, or Millersburg. But did you know that "Amish Country" is actually all over the state? There are approximately 26 counties in Ohio that have Amish communities. Other counties may not actually have Amish but do have extensive Mennonite populations. In the older well established areas, tourism has become a staple and leading industry. Amish Settlements are spreading to many different areas of the state.
