Amish Country locations are closer than you might think. If you live in Ohio, then you are within only a couple hours of any number of Amish communities in Ohio.
According to the Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies, of the estimated over 230,000 Amish in the nation, approximately 24% or nearly 56,000 of them live in Ohio.
This ranks Ohio as the leading state in Amish population over Pennsylvania with nearly 52,000 and Indiana with nearly 39,000.
You're probably familiar with areas like Holmes County and Berlin. You've probably heard of Sugarcreek, Walnut Creek, or Millersburg. But did you know that "Amish Country" is actually all over the state?
There are approximately 26 counties in Ohio that have Amish communities. Other counties may not actually have Amish but do have extensive Mennonite populations.
In the older well established areas, tourism has become a staple and leading industry.
Amish Settlements are spreading to many different areas of the state. As they move into a community, the Amish bring along their quiet, simple lifestyle as well as their hard work ethic and quality of workmanship.

Follow these signs to find hidden gems and treasures off the beaten path. You must be willing to venture away from the main highways though.
Look for Amish businesses and shops in these out of the way places. There are so many great experiences awaiting you on the back roads and byways of Ohio Amish Country!
You may see Amish children playing near one-room schoolhouses. You might be able to watch farmers hauling crops from the field on horse-drawn wagons.
Or you could even catch the ladies of the family hanging out laundry on wash day.
