Experience an Amish Cheese Ball

A cheese ball is always great for just snacking and even better for parties and family get-togethers. It's especially a good choice during the holiday season.

If you want a great recipe for a quick and easy-to-make cheese ball, here's one you'll want to give a try some time.

It must be pretty popular with the Amish - considering eight different Amish ladies submitted the same one!

Ingredients:

2 (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
1 C. cheddar cheese
2 T. onion, chopped
2 T. Worcestershire sauce
1 T. lemon juice
1 T. parsley flakes

Mix together and set aside till cold. Form a ball and roll in English walnuts. Slice and spread on Ritz crackers.

Recipe taken from Cooking With The Horse & Buggy People Vol. I submitted by Mrs. Emanuel H. Yoder, Mrs. John J. Troyer, Susie Hershberger, Mrs. Daniel H. Burkholder, Mrs. Abe J. Schlabach, Mrs. John A. Miller, Mrs. Mose E. Hershberger and Mrs. Albert M.L. Yoder.

You can always add in your own favorite mix of spices. Try using some chives or go with green onions. Maybe consider making a blend of cheeses (Amish cheeses are the best of course).

You can try substituting almond slices or sunflower seeds for the crushed walnuts or simply add some sesame seeds. Some folks like to sprinkle bacon bits on top. And of course, your favorite crackers are always the best choice.
