Most over-the-counter cough medicines are chock full of "amazing" ingredients that can't even be pronounced let alone deciphered.
You just about need a pharmacy degree to understand what is actually in that bottle. Then, they add a lot a sugar and artificial color on top. In the end, who really knows what you've got?
Do you want to avoid ingesting all those unneeded extras? Don't want your child to have a sugar rush just to beat that pesky cough? Are you trying to avoid any unnecessary medications?
Well then, maybe you're looking for a home remedy recipe for a simple and wholesome cough syrup. Here's an Amish recipe you need to try. Who knows, it might even taste better than that other stuff - and it will certainly be better for you.
1 lemon, sliced thin
1 qt. water
1/2 pt. flax seed
Simmer 3-4 hours. Do not boil. Strain while hot. Add 2 oz. honey then water to make 1 pt. Dosage: 1 T. 4 times a day. In addition give a dose after each severe fit of coughing.
