Does the very thought of making fudge cause you to have Atychiphobia? Well, there's no need to ever fear failure again when making this recipe tested and used by the Amish.
This "never fail" recipe includes a few extras that help make it especially chocolatey and rich. It uses real butter instead of margarine and adds chocolate chips.
You can substitute almonds, pecans, hazelnuts or peanuts for the walnuts. Or, if you are allergic to nuts you can simply omit them altogether.
If you like the great taste of peanut butter with chocolate, you can always experiment by adding a few tablespoons of peanut butter as well.
1/3 C. butter
4 1/2 C. sugar
14 1/2 oz. can evaporated milk
1 C. marshmallow cream
2 t. vanilla
1 bar (13 oz.) sweet chocolate, grated
12 oz. semisweet chocolate chips
2 C. walnuts, chopped
Combine butter, sugar and milk and boil 5 1/2 minutes. Remove from heat and add remaining ingredients except nuts. Beat until well mixed and add nuts. Spoon into buttered pan. Cool until firm then cut. This will make 5 lbs.
