Hartville was founded in 1851 and was originally known for its Amish and Mennonite roots.

Today, there are no longer any Amish districts on record in the area. Yet their influence, along with that of the current Mennonite population, still remains strong.

The village and the surrounding area is packed with things to see and do.

Whether you're a history lover, a nature enthusiast, a flea market bug, an antique buff or just want to "get out and go," you'll find something here for everyone.

You'll quickly see why they say, "Stay an hour - stay the day!" Though it is an excellent day trip, trust us when we say that one day will not suffice.

During the summer, we've been able to get great bargains on fresh seasonal produce at the MarketPlace. You could actually do a good bit of grocery shopping while there. They have vendors with fresh meats and cheeses, fruits & vegetables and even herb and specialty food sales.

If you get there early, shop for a while and then enjoy lunch at the MarketPlace food court. Or if you'd rather, you can head on over to the Hartville Kitchen and Collectables restaurant and shops and check out their food and extensive line of gifts.

Our youngest daughters really liked the Lee Middleton Nursery and the Newborn Nursery Adoption Center where you can officially adopt a baby doll and quite lavishly accessorize it.
