Ohio Amish Country Experiencesand Ohio Amish Country Marketing Volume 04 February 2012![]() Dear Ohio Amish Country Enthusiast, So, what do groundhogs, valentines and presidents have in common? Surely the answer is obvious to most - February! But the significance may not be as easily discerned. Regardless of whether or not ole Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, there are only and truly six more weeks of official winter. Where has this winter gone? As far as Northeast Ohio is concerned, the predictions were a bit off. We've enjoyed quite a rather mild winter. Not that we haven't had cold and snow, but it hasn't stayed long without a thaw. ![]() Although holiday rates will apply to lodgings, Valentine's Day and Presidents' Day are great get-a-way opportunities to experience the beauty, serenity and solitude available in Ohio Amish Country! Please remember to follow Experience Ohio Amish Country on Facebook for more exciting tips & info. And, if you need a little help navigating around Ohio Amish Country, we strongly advise that you get an Ohio Amish Country map. _________________________________________________________________ In this issue we'll be highlighting: Feature of the Month - Baltic Mills Tip of the Month - Need/Got Shoes? Featured Recipe of the Month - Cinnamon Rolls Monthly Events - Find out what's happening - where and when in Ohio Amish Country. _________________________________________________________________ Baltic Mills
Located in the heart of Baltic, Ohio at 111 Main Street is one of the oldest buildings in town - the Old Baltic Mill. Here they still grind flour and sell bulk foods, jams, jellies, Amish crafts & gifts and more. The mill opened in 1850, was destroyed by fire in 1908 and was rebuilt and re-opened in four months time. By 1964 the wheels ceased and the mill was closed. But, thanks to Alvin and Esther Miller who purchased it 30 years later, it's back to the old grind! You will definitely want to stop by and visit this must see in the Baltic, Ohio area. ![]() Much of the old building and machinery is still intact from the original old mill. The first floor houses the store, while the floors above are being converted to a museum for viewing the old equipment. Their phone number is 330-897-0522, their hours are Mon.-Sat. 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. Bus parking is also available. _________________________________________________________________ Need Shoes? - Got Shoes! ![]() If you're looking for a good pair of shoes - we know of a couple of great places. They have good prices and a good selection of high quality shoes. If you're in the Holmes County area, we highly recommend Charm Harness & Boot. They carry everything from work boots and cowboy boots to dress shoes and tennis shoes! They also carry cowboy hats & outdoor work wear as well as hunting clothes. They are located right in Charm at 4432 CR 70. ![]() They carry shoes for the whole family, a large selection of Amish clothing, quality outdoor lawn furniture and Weaver’s barns and Gazebos. Roll out and spread with 1/4 C. brown sugar and 1 t. cinnamon. Bake at 425° for 8 to 10 minutes. We found that it may be necessary to add more flour than is called for in the recipe to make it the right consistency for rolling out. However we also found that these were some of the best tasting cinnamon rolls we've had. Cinnamon Rolls Recipe given by Mrs. Roman E. Raber from the Cooking with the Horse and Buggy People Vol. I.
