We began our journey at Millersburg and followed the road signs for "Ohio's First State Road" all the way to Port Washington.
The scenery was breath taking! We passed buggies, families farming and doing daily chores, and children walking barefoot with their parents. Everyone smiled at us and gave us a big friendly wave.
Out of respect for their privacy we waved and smiled back, but continued to drive.
Stopping in Baltic for lunch at Miller's Dutch Kitchen, we experienced the best food we have ever tasted. The staff was friendly and the prices were very reasonable.
To say it is "off the beaten path" is an understatement. We traveled over two lane paved back roads, gravel roads, and even some gravel rutted one lane paths. (Not a road to take if traveling by motorcycle.)
The journey was the best day of our week long trip to Ohio.
Thank you, Experience Ohio Amish Country for the suggestion. We would not have known of this wonderful road without you.
I have traveled the back roads several times and always enjoy the ride and the scenery. I never seem to make it all the way to the end. I always get distracted and want to take a left or a right somewhere along the way. I will travel from one end to the other one day . . . hopefully!!!!

awesome drive by: Ron Mangus
I have driven this entire route on a motorcycle.
It is mostly gravel, but very much drivable, if you go SLOW.
Very peacful and off the beaten track.
One of my favorite drives.

Would definitely agree! by: Anonymous
Haven't actually taken the entire Port Washington Road trip, but have been on much of it. All you can say is, "Wow" or "Oh, look over there!" at almost every turn in the road. And, yes, it is very rural - but well worth the time.
